The EDUCATE Center administers the Illinois BioGENEius Competition. BioGENEius is a national, biotechnology-focused science competition for high school students. BioGENEius challenges students to initiate and undertake university-level research projects.
The 2015 Illinois BioGENEius Challenge competition opens February 16, 2015. The deadline for poster submissions is 5 PM on April 10, 2015. Three new Challenge Tracks—Global Healthcare (medical biotech), Global Sustainability (agricultural biotech) and Global Environment (industrial/environmental biotech)—give students more opportunities than ever to apply and earn recognition for their projects.
To apply, students must be public or private high school students currently enrolled in biology or science-related courses. Students create and submit a poster on their original research. Projects must have an application in biotechnology. 2015 Illinois contestants will give 10-minute presentations on their posters to judges at the iBIO Index event. The IndEx is iBIO’s annual event for Midwest biotech, medtech, pharma and healthcare industries. The judging will take place April 21, 2015 between 10 AM and 3 PM at the Hilton Orrington hotel in Evanston, IL.
Illinois winners and their guardians will receive an all-expenses paid trip to present their posters at the U.S. National Competition and International Competition held in Philadelphia, PA on June 12 – June 16, 2015. International contest winners receive cash prizes up to $7,500.
